The School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography is seeking an inspirational teacher with both breadth and depth of knowledge in anthropology, with the capacity to contribute to teaching across the spectrum of the School’s Social and Medical Anthropology graduate courses.

This vacancy arises due to an unanticipated gap in teaching provision due to staff absence.  Consequently, we are looking for a suitably qualified candidate to start at short notice in October 2025.

You will need in-depth familiarity with the existing literature and research in social and medical anthropology and will have capacity to use it to develop course materials.  The successful candidate will teach tutorials, give lectures, including an option course in Medical Anthropology, supervise dissertations, undertake examining, and participate in the student admissions process.

The Director of Graduate Studies, Elizabeth Ewart will be happy to answer informal queries regarding the post.  Please contact recruit@anthro.ox.ac.uk in the first instance.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 23rd September 2025.

We expect to hold interviews on Thursday 2nd or Friday 3rd October 2025.
