Dr Yuxin Peng

Postdoctoral Affiliate

My current research focuses on discovering and experimenting with multiple approaches for treatment evaluation within and beyond the domains of biomedicine and psychiatry. I am specifically interested in conducting critical anthropological assessments of therapeutic interventions that become effective through a diversity of social interactions that induce sensory-bodily experiences that are significant and diverse. In contrast to the standardised evaluations, the anthropological assessment I am trained to conduct takes seriously the processual and multiple aspects of therapeutic interventions. It aims to present empirical evidence that based on the diverse experiences of mental health service users that may contest, contrast, or complement the data collected by standardised clinical assessments.

While my doctoral research focused on the UK context, my research network enables constant exchanges of ideas and collaboration opportunities with medical anthropologists in China, Canada, the USA, Germany, and Switzerland. Please email: yuxin.peng@anthro.ox.ac.uk for research collaboration.
