Dr Ewa Majczak is an anthropologist with research interests in issues of gender, sexuality and intimacy; body, work and value; senses, visual technologies and capitalism. She holds a DPhil in Anthropology from the University of Oxford. She is currently starting to work on a manuscript provisionally entitled “Beauty work: gender, immaterial value and aesthetic capitalism in Yaounde, Cameroon”. The book explores the gendered, economic and intimate effects of young women’s investments in beauty, fashion and photography against the backdrop of Cold war media and trade liberalisation, as well as decay in education and formal employment.
