Bani completed her PhD at the University of Copenhagen in September 2019. Situated at the intersection of Anthropology, Migration Studies and South Asia Studies, her doctoral dissertation explored contemporary practices of transnational mobility from West Africa to Delhi, India, with a particular focus on frameworks of migrant ‘illegality’, informal entrepreneurship, racialization, and the violence of law and bureaucracy from a global south perspective. She currently serves as Executive Committee Member of the Emerging Scholars and Practitioners on Migration Issues Network (ESPMI) and is on the editorial team of Refugee Review. Bani Gill was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the PEAK Urban Programme until early 2022.
