Thesis: When Human Theories and Knowledge Are Dismantled by AI: A Decade After AlphaGo’s Emergence in the Posthuman Go Community
Research: Chimin's research explores the impact of AI on the Go community following AlphaGo’s 2016 victory over human Go champion Lee Se-dol. In recent years, breakthroughs by computer science have led to the advent of narrow superintellignece, profoundly affecting most members of the Go community. Centuries of Go theories and knowledge developed by humans are now rapidly being overshadowed by AI's numerial win-rate indicators, all within just a decade. Through this research, he investigates the impacts Go AI on different groups of people, including professional players, educators, learners, and casual players. By doing so, he aims to present the community's experiences and their societal implications within a broader context.
Chimin's interest in this research stems from rigorous professional Go training in Korea from a young age, which was further enriched through teaching experiences in Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, and France. His professional role at the Korea Baduk Association, where he connected with Go organisations globally, has helped him establish a network within the Go community.
Research Interests: artificial intelligence, Baduk (Go), posthumanism, technology
