Walking the Path: Spiritual Transformation within Contemporary Druidry

This thesis explores spiritual transformation within contemporary Druidry. Due to the escalating mental health issues, ecological crisis, and general disenchantment we face in the anthropocene, many are turning to nature-based spiritualities, such as Druidry. Meanwhile, research demonstrates that participation and affiliation with traditional religious institutions continues to decline. By engaging with druids and contemporary druid orders through participant experience and participant observation, this research sheds light on Druidry’s widening appeal and how—if at all—following such a path leads to a transformation of Self. In doing so, this research provides insight into the dynamics of self-transformation, along with what promise Druidry holds for those that follow the path and the communities to which they belong.
