Launch: Living Emptiness: Place, Power and Meaning-Making from the Baltic to the Russian Far East
Why are Eastern Europe’s small villages and towns emptying, and what does it mean for the residents who stay?
Join us for the launch of Living Emptiness: Place, Power, and Meaning-Making from the Baltic to the Russian Far East by Dace Dzenovska, with Volodymyr Artiukh, Dominic Martin, Maria Gunko, & Michelle Chew.
A multimodal launch supported by MeThree of a digitally born book published with Stanford University Press.
The digital book is one of the major outputs from the EMPTINESS: Living Capitalism and Democracy after Postsocialism project. Over five years, a team of University of Oxford researchers studied emptying towns and villages across Eastern Europe and Russia to understand what it means to live in and govern emptying places, and what these places can reveal about how flows of capital and shifts in political authority are reshaping the world we live in.
