Argonauts unbound: artefactual histories for the 21st Century
Friday 16 February 2024, 12pm
Pitt Rivers Museum Lecture Theatre
Chris Wingfield (University of East Anglia)
Prompted by the centenary of the publication of Malinowski’s Argonauts of the Western Pacific in 2022, Chris Wingfield has been writing an experimental digital monograph (https://argonauts2022.net/), supported by a 12-month British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship during 2024. This talk will reflect on the process of writing and the ways in which Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology might respond to calls for Writing Against Culture (Abu-Lughod 1991) by engaging and unpacking the historicity of artefacts.
