Five things you probably didn't know about periods

School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography doctoral student in new BBC film

Menstruation is a natural process that affects half of the world’s population during their lives, but it’s little understood. For example, did you know that 98% of mammals don't have periods? And that there is no scientific evidence for "moon syncing"? Doctoral student, Gabriella Kountourides, dispels some myths around menstruation while shedding light on recent findings in this new BBC Ideas film.

Gabriella's is one of four inspiring short films that bring to life new academic research, sharing key takeaways and fresh perspectives on topics that range from air-conditioning to nutrition, and from periods to poverty.

The four films are co-produced by the University of Oxford’s Social Sciences Division and BBC Ideas. Watch them all here.
