Roger is an anthropologist at Oxford working in the Nuffield Department of Medicine. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health, and a lecturer in the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine. He also teaches at Lady Margaret Hall, and participates in the Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture at Regent's Park College. He is interested in Islam and medicine, and collaborates with ArgO-EMR (Anthropology research group at Oxford on Eastern Medicines and Religions). 

His research in anthropology of medicine has focused on the contemporary working lives of Western medicine practitioners. He conducted fieldwork with mid-career doctors in South West England (Britain), Pasifika healthcare students in Papua New Guinea (Melanesia), and minority health leaders across the USA (North America). He also carried out field studies with healthcare professionals working amid Indigenous peoples in Western Amazon (Lowland South America) and amid Afro-Brazilians nationwide (Black Atlantic). His first research was conducted with Arab immigrant patients in Sao Paulo city (Arab Diaspora).
