Rachel Humphris is a lecturer in the School of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham. She completed a DPhil in Anthropology at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), University of Oxford in November 2016. She was also a visiting doctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in 2014.
Rachel’s research brings together innovative qualitative methods in migration studies with the anthropology of the state and the critical study of race. Her work examines the interplay between policies and practices of membership and belonging focusing on social inequality. Her work has been published in Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies and Geopolitics, amongst others. She has also completed consultancies for WHO, UNHCR, UNDP and IOM.
Rachel is the UK coordinator for the European Website on Integration, which is part of the Global Exchange on Migration and Diversity programme at COMPAS.
