Dr Mitra Pariyar is a research associate with Kingston University, London, working on a Leverhulme-funded project on civil-military relations. He is currently engaged in an embedded ethnographic study of the town of Tidworth, a super-garrison on the eastern edge of Salisbury Plain, SW England. Pariyar holds a PhD in Sociology from Macquarie University, Sydney, and MPhil in Social Anthropology from Oxford University. His PhD research looked at the migration and settlement of Nepalese Gurkhas in Britain in the first decade of the 21st century, with a particular focus on the reproduction of caste and casteism abroad. An expert in caste and casteism, both in Nepal and abroad, he is interested in wide-ranging issues including migration, diversity, multiculturalism, civil-military relations, as well as qualitative research, cyber-ethnography and sociological/anthropological theories.
