Celia Deane-Drummond is currently Director of the Laudato Si Research Institute and Senior Research Fellow at Campion Hall. She is a Roman Catholic theologian whose specialist interest is at the interface of theology, ethics and the natural and human sciences. Originally trained in natural sciences at Cambridge, she specialised in plant physiology and biophysics at postdoctoral level, before re-training and gaining a degree and doctorate in theological studies at Manchester University. Much of her work and publications have focused on theological engagement with ecology and biotechnologies.

In more recent years she has developed a particular interest in theological anthropology, including co-leading with Dominic Johnson a focused project on Human Nature and Evolution at the Centre of Theological Inquiry in Princeton, from 2012-2013 and then further shared large scale grant projects supported by the John Templeton Foundation with anthropologist Agustín Fuentes while she was a Professor in Theology at the University of Notre Dame, USA. She currently serves as a trustee for the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR), is co-editor of the journal Theology, Philosophy and the Sciences, and is Vice President of the Science and Religion Forum. She is also Visiting Professor of Theology and Science in the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Durham and an Affiliate member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. She is widely known nationally and internationally and has published over 200 articles and more than 25 books at both academic and more accessible levels. Her more recent publications include:
