Dan Hicks is Associate Professor in the School of Archaeology, Curator of Archaeology at the Pitt Rivers Museum, and a Fellow of St Cross College. Dan was previously Lecturer in Archaeology & Anthropology at Bristol University, Lecturer in Archaeology & Anthropology at St John's College, Oxford, and Research Fellow in Archaeology at Boston University, USA. Dan is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA), a full Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA), a member of the AHRC Peer Review Council, and an elected Trustee of the Society of Antiquaries of London. He is the University of Oxford's Junior Proctor Elect for 2017-18.
Dan teaches a range of papers for the BA Archaeology and Anthropology, the BA History of Art and the MSt in Archaeology, including the Nature of Archaeological and Anthropological Enquiry, Urbanisation and Change in Complex Societies, Landscape and Ecology, Introduction to World Archaeology and a hands-on optional paper Understanding Museums and Collections. He supervises doctoral students in the fields of historical archaeology, material culture studies, and contemporary archaeology.
