Thesis: Fresh foods and well-being: practicing freshness in Chongqing, China
Research: Based on long-term fieldwork in three sites in the mega-city of Chongqing (重庆) in Southwest China, my research project attempts to reveal what Chinese people perceive as 'fresh' foods and how they play out in people's daily lives. By focusing on particular instances of producing, purchasing, handling and consuming or generally engaging with fresh foods, I explore the practices of Chinese people in their everyday 'doing' of freshness. Furthermore, I seek to assess the ways in which local experiences of well-being are tied to people's active engagements with fresh foods that make them feel 'good' and healthy.
