The Matter in Museums: Objects and how they are collected, arranged and documented have the potential to shape how they are accessed and shared. In this talk I review my career as a curator and explore how object encounters have informed and influenced my practice.
Chantal Knowles completed her Master of Studies in Ethnology and Museum Ethnography in 1996 and went on to work as a Research Assistant at the Pitt Rivers Museum until December 2000. A museum professional who has worked in the United Kingdom, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, she is currently Head of Human History at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum and co-director of Te Aho Mutunga Kore a textile and fibre centre at Auckland Museum launching in January 2023.
