Curated by Nakamura, A Future for Memory: Art and Life after the Great East Japan Earthquake is an exhibition currently on at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC in Vancouver (February 11 –September 5, 2021). The exhibition derives from her personal experience in the disaster region (see “Memory in the Debris”, Anthropology Today, June 2012). It addresses how we deal with memory when our physical surroundings are drastically altered. She will show the online tour of the exhibition, and will share what went into making the exhibition and what the artists and other collaborators from Japan say about their experience of the disaster and the recovery process in relation to their work.
