SAME alumnus Jelle Wouters brings anthropology to new audiences in South Asia

SAME alumnus Jelle J.P. Wouters (MPhil 2009-2011) has played a key part in opening up the teaching of anthropology in two South Asian universities. He taught first in Sikkim Central University (alongside researching and writing his PhD), where Professor Tanka Subba as VC of Sikkim University (and Jelle's PhD supervisor), took the initiative to establish anthropology from 2013, with Jelle serving as the Department’s first In-Charge. Now, in August 2018, the first batch of students will begin their Anthropology BA at Royal Thimphu College, Thimphu, Bhutan, a programme Jelle co-designed and on which he currently teaches.
