Postdoctoral Associate Rachel Humphris has been awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship
The School congratulates Postdoctoral Associate and COMPAS affiliate Rachel Humphris who has been awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship, beginning in May 2018 at the University of Birmingham.
The title of the three-year project is 'Welcoming Cities? understanding sanctuary in securitised states'.
The project will map national policy developments alongside the history of city-sanctuary movements (defined as policies and practices that welcome non-citizens); and offers in-depth empirical exploration of securitisation of policies and city-sanctuary practices in Melbourne, San Francisco and Sheffield. The overall research question asks: what conditions and practices foster a city-based culture of welcoming in the face of state-level hostility? It aims to open interdisciplinary dialogue on why urban innovations matter for migration governance.
