Dr Ben Gidley

Ben Gidley is a Senior Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck, University of London. He studied Anthropology and Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he later worked as a researcher in the Centre for Urban and Community Research. He was a Senior Researcher at COMPAS at Oxford from 2010 to 2015, and an Associate Professor in the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography from 2014. His research has focused on the ethnography of intercultural encounter and urban life, mainly in inner South London, and on diaspora and transnationalism both ethnographically and historically. At present, he is working Jewish-Muslim-Christian connections in East London as part of the Oxford Diaspora Programme and continues to contribute to Oxford's Global Exchange on Migration and Diversity. His publications include Ethnography, Diversity and Urban Space, edited with Mette Berg and Nando Sigona.
